Which health insurance is best for my baby?
To insure your baby or newborn from their very first breath, you should ideally take out health insurance before they are even born. In Switzerland, health insurance must, by law, be arranged no later than three months after the birth. Read on to discover which model, deductible and supplementary insurance are the best choice for your baby.
Basic health insurance for your baby
Basic health insurance is compulsory for everyone in Switzerland – including your newborn from the day on which they are born, as they are not automatically covered by the parents’ insurance.
Guaranteed insurance cover
Health insurers in Switzerland are obliged to accept your baby – even if born with medical issues.
Same benefits from all providers
Basic health insurance always provides the same benefits regardless of health insurer.
Early registration
We recommend registering your baby for health insurance even before they are born. This allows you to focus on your newborn and family life during your first few weeks as parents rather than having to deal with administrative tasks. You can simply submit your child’s date of birth at a later point in time.
Which benefits are covered by basic health insurance for newborns and children?
Basic health insurance covers the following benefits for babies:
- Health and development: 8 health and development checks between the first week of life and 16 years of age; hip ultrasound for infants up to the 6th week of life.
