History

KPT has enjoyed over 130 years of success founded on trust, satisfaction and simplicity.

Founding of the KPT health insurance fund in 1890 by the Association of Swiss Railway Employees.

1896: Change of name to "Krankenkasse des Personals Schweizerischer Transportanstalten" (Health Insurer for Swiss Transport Provider Personnel)

1911: Switzerland introduces the Health and Accident Insurance Act

1927: The future KPT is now also open to the wives of insured men.

Renaming to "Health Insurer for Federal Government and Transport Provider Personnel", in short: KPT.

1938: For the first time, a woman participates in the general meeting.

1966: KPT has over 100,000 customers and 4 employees.

1970: More than 90% of the Swiss population is covered by health insurance.

1988: KPT is now also open to employees of cantons and municipalities.

1993: The 1st edition of the member magazine "Inform" is published. KPT is now open to everyone.

1996: Introduction of compulsory health insurance.

2002: KPT launches its customer portal KPTnet.

2017: KPT launches KPT.Lab to develop the health insurance of the future..

2020: With the virtual insurance card and DoctorChat, KPT is performing digital pioneering work.

2022: KPT completely overhauls its IT services.
