KPT is managed by a board of five members who direct everyday business activities, make important decisions and safeguard the company’s further development.

CEO
Thomas Harnischberg
1962, lawyer
Thomas Harnischberg has been a member of the KPT Management Board since 2012. Until 2021, he was in charge of the HR and Legal departments and responsible for safety, risk management and public affairs. Since 2022, he has been Chair of the Management Board. Prior to this, he acquired extensive experience in the private insurance and federal administration fields. He also sits on the Board of Directors of a major Swiss hospital.

Head of Benefits + Products and Vice-CEO
Peter Hug
1977, business manager and insurance specialist
Peter Hug has been with KPT since 2020. He is an insurance specialist with many years of experience in management, benefits and customer consulting at Swiss health insurers. He has also completed several further education courses in business, including an Executive Master in Integrated Management.

Head of Customer Relations
Stefan Burkhalter
1982, business economist and insurance specialist
Stefan Burkhalter has been responsible for sales, customer consulting, marketing communication and online services since 2020. He holds an Executive MBA from the University of Zurich. He brings experience from several specialist and managerial positions at Swiss health insurers. Prior to his time at KPT, he was a national sales director for a major health insurer.

General Secretary
Beat Knuchel
1971, economist
Beat Knuchel has been with KPT since 2017. He was initially Head of Public Affairs and responsible for health policy. Since 2022, he has been General Secretary and responsible for HR, legal services, safety, risk management and public affairs. Prior to joining KPT, he held managerial positions at health insurance associations and a hospital.

Head of Finance + Controlling
Manuel Mauron
1983, investment analyst (CIIA®) and economist/social scientist
Manuel Mauron has been responsible for KPT’s financial management since 2022 and in charge of asset management since 2020. Prior to this, he spent over twelve years working for a major Swiss bank in various specialist and managerial roles in the investment and credit business. He brings experience in portfolio management and is a foundation board member at an institution for people with disabilities.

Head of IT
Maurizio Gitto
1982, IT Business Leader
Maurizio Gitto joined KPT in 2018 and has since held various management roles, including Sourcing Manager, Head of Service Management and IT Support, and Head of Operations. In 2026, as Head of IT and a member of the Management Board, he assumed responsibility for KPT’s IT strategy, architecture, operations, IT security and digital transformation. He draws on extensive experience in banking, insurance and global IT procurement, and holds an Executive Diploma in IT Business Management from the University of St. Gallen.

Benefits + Products
This business area processes your claims efficiently and correctly, keeping treatment costs as low as possible while maintaining consistently high quality. Modern IT systems and purchasing partnerships also ensure efficient processes. The business area furthermore develops new products and services that make your everyday life easier.
Customers
This business area is responsible for clear customer communications and developing online services such as the KPTnet customer portal and KPT app. Your enquiries are dealt with swiftly and professionally online, over the phone or in writing. To ensure optimum sales quality, we do not use disreputable brokers or call centres.
IT
IT ensures that the digital infrastructure functions reliably, securely and efficiently. By operating systems, networks, workstations, and further developing digital solutions, IT lays the foundation for smooth business processes and innovation.
General Secretariat
The General Secretariat brings together Legal Services, Public Affairs, Compliance, Integrated Risk and Control Management (IRKM) and Corporate Security. It is responsible for ensuring a clear legal framework, supporting the executive management and strengthening security within the company. The data protection team ensures that personal and business data is protected at all times. In addition, the Secretariat serves as the central interface between the Board of Directors and the Management Board.
Finance + Controlling
Finance and Controlling is responsible for the prudent management of all KPT finances, including accounts, payments and real estate. Capital investments strengthen KPT’s success. One important task of this business area is the ongoing calculation of your premiums.
